Hello

Just registered to ask for advice. I have just received an old laptop from my aunt, Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 it's running XP SP1 and I don't really know what to do with it.

I would only use it to watch some DVDs, play a bit of music and surf the web so to make it run smoother I thought about installing Ubuntu on it. I don't really know where to start and don't know if the wireless internet will still work. I'm using a wireless PC card.

I tried to format C, didn't work because some process is still using some volume, when I tried to force it it didn't work either.

Ideally I'm looking for something with code highlighting, can open multiple documents, and can works with Drupal's CVS server.
I've tried to install PHPEclipse into Eclipse, but so far no go. Is that worth using? Or is there something better?

Please help!

I have somehow managed to remove the network adapter from my PC.

I updated my PC to Internet Explore 8 and uninstalled some unused programs which were taking up memory space.
After this I could not connect to the internet.

My network connection is only showing dial up and I have lost the LAN. Under Device Manager I am not showing any Network adapters. It only says Ethernet Controller with a question mark and exclamation mark. I have clicked this and tried to re-install but it is not working.

I have been told to download a driver and re-install but I really don't know what I am looking for or which driver to select.

My PC is a Dell Optiplex 320 and I am running Windows XP.
Unfortunatly I do not have any disks that came with the PC as I bought it second hand.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this as I am lost without my broadband.

Thank You

Hey, this has been happening for a while, but now it's really started to bug me. I'd been using chrome for ages, then every now and again the computer would stop responding unless i closed it. I could often deal with this as i would just close it, do what i needed to do and reopen the tabs. However, then it became more frequent until now, which is more than 50% of the time (regardless of how long it has been running). It is also the same issue with Opera and Internet Explorer. Firefox is the only one still fully operational for me at the moment.

Any ideas??

I don't think it's my system, but just in case the basics are:

Processor: Quad Core 2.67 GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB
GFX: 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4870 DDR5

Thanks in advance!

I have set up my desktop pc and my daughter's laptop but can't do mine and have tried everything, been on the phone to talk talk for hours and hours and they don't know why, have googled till my fingers bleed, so someone please help me. I'm not great with computers so here goes, when I go into start and connect I can see my router but it says connected with limited access, when I right click and go into (??can't remember what it was called) it shows IPV4 and IPV6 not connected so i'm guessing this is the problem and I have already tried manually entering IP address and gone into command prompt and done the winsock thing, sorry but i have very basic knowledge, this is what talk talk went through to do with me. I really hope that someone will be able to help, oh by the way, it also says echo request failed, access denied in the command prompt.
