Help with wirless prining.
I'm normally pritty good when it comes to this but I'm kerfuddled.
I have my new Pc which connects ot my network. My old laptop (my other one) still connects and sees my new computer but cannot access anything because the admin settings are wrong. My new PC is blank and cannot see any PC. I have run the sharring wizards and everything is shared, HDD, Docs, Printers etc. That didn't work and as a last resource have used the add printer on the other laptop. It finds tbhe PC but not my printer. It already has all drivers installed from my previous laptop. Any light sharing would be great! Adam. Adam |

RE: Help with wirless prining.
Being a Cisco network engineer.. I should be able to offer a few pointers.
There's many reasons for this to happen. First of all:
NetBios Over TCP/IP To enable, you would need to go to Control Panel > Network Connections. Right-click the connection you wish to troubleshoot. Properties > Click Internet Protocol TCP/IP (usually bottom of the list) and then Properties. In the dialog, click Advanced > WINS Tab > Check Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP. Then click Ok, till you reach Network Connections again, then reboot. The following services should be started and set to Automatic: Start > run > then type: "services.msc" minus the quotes. Click ok.
Also, please turn the Windows Firewall off. To re-enable windows firewall, don't forget to allow exceptions, from the exceptions tab select Windows sharing, or other services that you may need to allow... etc Regards, Free PC Advice Powered by our Partners: IT Support Manchester Selectweb Internet |

RE: Help with wirless prining.
Windows Firewall?? Why would that be running??
I have Norton! And yes before you say that could be a problem, but i have made sure that both firewalls allow connections from the IP addresses.

RE: Help with wirless prining.
When you turn off Norton, sometimes it enables Windows Firewall ;-)
And Norton has been known for that, you have to add your IP address range to the allowed connections. Regards, Free PC Advice Powered by our Partners: IT Support Manchester Selectweb Internet |

RE: Help with wirless prining.
Actually, I should have put that in the old thread... I forgot.
Start > run > services.msc Press ok. And look for each service in the list, right click properties, set to automatic and click start. Then click ok. Reboot computer when you have finished starting all services and setting to automatic. Regards, Free PC Advice Powered by our Partners: IT Support Manchester Selectweb Internet |

RE: Help with wirless prining.
For some reason I have noticed firewalls shutting these services down - they used to run by default. It could also be Windows update but I highly doubt it. Appears to be Norton and NTL netguard or windows firewall that normally causes issues.
NetBios Over TCP/IP is generally turned off as it's not required in corporate networks as we use DNS. However in a home workgroup it's best practice to turn it on as you have no DNS SERVER. Regards, Free PC Advice Powered by our Partners: IT Support Manchester Selectweb Internet |
