ctrl+C (or X or V) problem: intermittently acts like ctrl+end
Hi,
When I use the CTRL + C (also occurs with CTRL+V and I think with CTRL+X) shortcut for copying/pasting, in ANY appplication or web field, even folder windows, the selection is indeed copied/pasted, but the cursor immediately jumps to the end of the document/page/other in exactly the same fashion as when the CTRL+[end] shortcut is used. This problem occurs intermittently. For example, sometimes it will simply work once or a few times; sometimes it will work if the right-click-copy/paste method is used prior. So it's rather strange and hard to reproduce on the spot. I have had this problem for some time now but have resigned myself to tolerance rather than solution, and have to use the right-click-copy or paste option. I am a data analyst and use many different analysis programs like spreadsheets, etc, and also MATLAB for programming scripts for efficient data handling. So as you can imagine, I like to use the CTRL+C/V functions often while manipulating data - without having to find my place again!!. So this is a pain. I have tried the following already: - anti-virus: Windows Defender; avast! (uninstalled now); Webroot - anti-spyware: Webroot Spysweeper; Spyhunter; Spy-bot (the above used regularly) - Registry Mechanic - Disk Cleanup - Safe-mode: it still does it in safe mode. Has this happened to anyone else in the universe? Can anyone help with this cruel joke of a problem?! Ha. Cheers. |

Have you tried a new keyboard? Could be a daft suggestion but worth a shot.

But I might get one to try it. The keys work fine by themselves and also the shortcut functions work intermittently also. I can't see why the CTRL+END function would be executed! It's crazy. Is it possible that there's a bug in the keyboard software itself? Like, do keyboards have there own embedded software? I mean, perhaps some bug is causing the END key to be executed when the two others are pressed, but only under certain circumstances. Hence the intermittence. Cheers for the help. |

If it's a laptop, then no really there isn't any software besides the default windows ones.
Also check keyboard / regional settings are set correctly in Control Panel. Regards, Free PC Advice Powered by our Partners: IT Support Manchester Selectweb Internet |

Any suggestions about what I might need to assess in the Keyboard and/or Regional settings? FYI: I updated the driver but my one was up to date; the keyboard is listed as a Standard PS/2. Not sure what to do in Regional settings. Everything seems alright. Cheers. |

Here is a tutorial for Windows XP, with Pictures... you need to use British UK.

Using "English (New Zealand)" should be fine shouldn't it? I'm in NZ. Probably not much different from UK, except $ sign! PS: I am running Vista Home Basic. I also noted the shortcut to switch between languages (ALT+SHIFT) and layouts (CTRL+SHIFT). I tried toggling these but the problem persists. I have only one keyboard and language setup (i.e. can't actually switch). Thanks for your continued help. |

Have you tried using another keyboard, that you can plug in using USB?
