Laptop crashes when started normally
I recently purchased an Acer Aspire AS5535-5452 and have been using it for less than three weeks. It worked absolutely fine (although it seemed a little slow) for the first couple weeks, then, in the last three days or so, it has crashed every time I have attempted to start it up in normal mode. Following starting it up in safe mode, it tells me that it has recovered from a memory failure of some kind, the error is called "BlueScreen" or something like that.

A friend suggested that it may be Vista that is causing the problem and that I could try installing XP and using that instead, he said that his VAIO stopped crashing and sped up after he did this.

I was wondering if this sounds like a valid solution? Do you have your own suggestions? I would be grateful for any constructive replies.

factory specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor QL-64 (2.1 Ghz, 1MB L2 cache)
1408 MB ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics HyperMemory
Acer Nplify 802.1 1b/g/Draft-N WLAN

I have downloaded only three programs, to the computer: Firefox, Steam (with CS:S), and AVG Free as well as a number of Word documents and some pictures.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your laptop and bluescreen memory errors. Have you tried this free download? One quote states "this is one fine figure of a program! It turned my horrendously slow computer into a performance beast!" I hope it does the same for you http://www1.uniblue.com/pc/rb/google/content/1/

Not sure I'm keen on these one click registry cleaners to be honest...

It would be difficult to say what is the problem with your computer without seeing it, but you could always try installing XP. Remember though - you would loose the data on the Hard drive.

If you are receiving memory errors it could be the memory that is at fault and I would suggest getting a computer repair company to have a look at it for you.
