Uninstalling AVG 8.0

Hi,i've just bought Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.Before installing it i uninstalled all other security programmes,one of which was AVG 8.0 when i went to install Kaspersky it wouldn't let me as it said it had detected AVG on my laptop,which i had already uninstalled.So how can it detect a programme on my laptop when it is no longer there,and how do i overcome this?

Run a registry cleaner software, such as CCleaner. Just make sure you keep a backup before running any form of registry cleaner.
